Lil' Devil

Yeah

Livin' in a shack in a one-horse town
Tryin' to get to heaven 'fore the sun goin' down
Lizard in a bottle yeah

Dizzy in a haze for 40 days
Hey there little devil

Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my yeah angel, ow

Oh she came on with an alligator smile
Dynamite lover, scorpion child
Tryin' to get to heaven 'fore the sun goes down yeah

She came on with a Saigon kiss
Hey there baby you don't ever miss
Lizard in a bottle oh yeah

Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my little angel

Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my little angel angel
Come on little devil
Be my little angel
Come on little devil
Be my, oh be my angel

"Heroes" by David Bowie

Duration 5:44

_____

words by David Bowie

music by David Bowie & Brian Eno

"Heroes"

You, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers and that is that

Though nothing will keep us together
We can beat them forever and ever
Yeah we can be heroes just for one day
What you say, I say

And I, well I wish I could swim
Like dolphin, like a dolphin can swim
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them forever and ever
We could be heroes just for one day
What you say, I say

And I, I would be king
And you, you would be my queen
Though nothing could keep us together
We can beat them forever and ever
We can be heroes just for one day

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, the guns shot above our heads
(over our heads)
And we kissed as though nothing could fall
(nothing could fall)
And the shame, it fell out on the other side
We can beat them forever and ever
We can be heroes just for one day
What you say, I say

We can be heroes I say
We can be heroes, yeah, I say
We can be heroes just for one day
We can be heroes

For we're nothing and no one will help us
Maybe we're lying--then you better not stay
We can be heroes just for one day

Oh, oh-oh-oh-ohh
Oh-oh-oh-ohh,
Just for one day
(Oh-oh-oh-ohh)
We can be heroes
(Oh-oh-oh-ohh)
Just for one day

"Tell Him" sung by Haley Scarnato, inspired by Linda Ronstadt, and in the tradition of Barbara Reid

Last night, Haley Scarnato sang a terrific version of "Tell Him" on American Idol. Ryan Seacrest said it was originally sung by Billie Davis in 1963. In fact, Davis did the British invasion version. But, it was originally sung by the Exciters, with a very young Barbara Reid leading the way for the black female vocal groups to come in those 1960s. Scarnato's version is much closer to Reid's than to Davis's. But, the rendition that most apparently inspired her is the great Linda Ronstadt's, maybe the best version and vocal yet.

Below is Haley Scarnato singing "Tell Him", followed by the full lyrics by Bert Berns, followed by Linda Ronstsadt, followed by the Exciters.

Tell Him

I know something about love
You gotta want it bad
If that guy's got into your blood
Go out and get him
If you want him to be
The very part of you
Makes you want to breathe
Here's the thing to do

Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him tell him tell him tell him right now

I know something about love
You gotta show him
And make him see the moon up above
Go out and get him
If you want him to be
Always by your side
If you want him to
Only think of you

Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him tell him tell him tell him right now

Ever since the world began
It's been that way for men
And women were created
To make love their destiny
Then why should true love be
So complicated oh

I know something about love
You've gotta take him
And show him what the world is made of
One kiss could prove it

If you want him to be
Always by your side
Take his hand tonight
Swallow your foolish pride

Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him tell him tell him tell him right now

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton

_____

by Dolly Parton

I Will Always Love You

If I should stay,
well I would only be in your way.
And so I'll go, and yet I know
that I'll think of you each step of the way.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.

Bittersweet memories,
I guess that's all I'll be taking with me.
Goodbye. Oh please, don't cry.
'Cause we both know that I'm not what you need.

But I will always love you.
I will always love you.
